BARC PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Those residing in the Ballston School district are eligible to participate in any of the BARC programs.

SOCCER -  This is recreational soccer and no one is left out if registration is received on time.  Our focus is on instruction and fun.

Offered both in the spring and fall to those ENTERING Kindergarten through eighth grades of the upcoming school year. ( Example :  If entering Kindergarten through eighth grades in September of 2004, you are eligible to play soccer in the spring and fall of 2004.)  Those on the Modified School team can not play but may sign up and if they do make the team they will then be dropped from the BARC team or they have one week to sign up for BARC soccer after finding out they did not make the Modified School team.  Teams are formed according to the grade a child is in.  Co-ed.

Master’s Soccer – Offered twice a year for those ages 14 and up.   In the spring is played outdoors and in the winter inside.  Co-ed.

T-Ball -  Offered in the spring only, is opened to children Entering Kindergarten through first grades in the upcoming school year. (See example above)  Those entering first grade who have proof of playing 1 year of T-Ball in the prior year can move up to Instructional Baseball if they want.  In this game, the ball is hit from the T.  Co-ed.

Instructional Baseball – Those entering second and third grades are eligible to play.  The only exception to this is someone entering first grade who has proof of one year of T-Ball.   In this game, the coach or another adult will pitch to the player.  This is designed to get the child ready for more advanced baseball.  Co-ed.

Basketball – Opened to students in grades 3 through 9.  Teams are grouped by grade.  Normal division is: 3&4, 5&6, 7-9 together.  Grouping is dependent on the number of participants.  There are both girls’ and boys’ teams.

Enrichment Classes   Offered three times a year, these classes are designed to both educate and provide fun for your child. These classes are free of charge .

Fall and Winter sessions are held on Saturdays from 10:00 – noon for six Saturdays  Those eligible are children attending Kindergarten through eighth grades. 

The Summer session is held for three weeks.  Children entering Kindergarten through eighth grades of the upcoming school year are eligible to attend. (Example: If entering Kindergarten through eighth grades in September of 2004, you are eligible to attend in the summer of 2004).

Sample class offerings: Drawing & Cartooning, Science, Arts & Crafts, Cooking, Spanish, Gymnastics, Tae Kwon Do etc.

Family Ski Program   This is open to any member of a family who is 4 years old and up.  Skiing is done at Willard Mountain at a very reduced rate.  Our designated days are either a Saturday or Sunday (must choose only one) for six weeks of lessons, ski rental, and lift.  After that you may ski on your designated day without extra cost (unless renting equipment) until the end of the season.  Lessons are not mandatory nor is rental if you have what you need.  Prices are based on which ski package you choose.

Swim Team – Those in Kindergarten and up who can swim the length of the school pool are eligible to join the swim team.  The season begins in the spring and ends in August.    

Children’s Summer Theatre -  Open to third grade through high school students, this is an educational program for students to learn all aspects of theatre such as set design, lights, sound, and of course acting.  Consistent attendance is mandatory to get ready for public performances of whichever show is chosen for the season. Everyone attending will participate in the production.  Auditions will be held for the acting parts and other positions will be filled in with the student’s preference.
